1ST GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING OF THE 1ST SESSION OF THE 5TH ASSEMBLY OF ACDA HELD ON 11TH AUGUST, 2020 AT NANA ADU DARKO COMMUNITY CENTER.
WELCOME ADDRESS BY HON. PM
The Hon. PM welcomed all to the meeting. He pleaded with members to be brief but precise in discussing issues that are raised in the house.
PRESENTATION OF HON. DCE’S SESSIONAL ADDRESS
The Hon. DCE presented the sessional address to the house. He touched on issues of administration, security, revenue and finance, education, agriculture and food security, physical planning and development control and central government policy decisions implementation.
Speaking on administration, the Hon. DCE thanked management and staff collaborating effectively for the growth and development of the District. He further went on to inform members that, the two unserviceable vehicles have been auctioned as was directed by the assembly in their last meeting.
On security, the Hon. DCE mentioned that, the District was calm with exception of some few robbery cases at Akokoaso. He added that 5 armed robbers have been arrested and convicted to a two year jail term.
FUMIGATION
An honorable member asked to know if JASTECH was not part of the fumigation.The DCE in response informed the house that, JASTECH was handled by the government (GES) and that his address only captured the ones carried out by the Assembly.
IGF (REVENUE MOBILIZATION)
An honorable member noted that, even though there has been an increase in the revenue mobilization, the Assembly needed to do more and therefore urged all Honorable members to help in the mobilization. He also requested for an increment in revenue collectors. The DCD in response made it known to the house that, the central government no longer recruited revenue collectors. He advised that members should introduce committed individuals in their areas to be bonded by the Assembly as commission collectors to help generate these funds internally.
The Hon.PM tasked management to invite to its next meeting, stone crushers to explain to the house why they have declined to pay tax to the Assembly.
EDUCATION
The Hon. PM asked to be briefed about the progress of the JASTECH Dining Hall project.
Responding, the DCE informed the house that the projects were still being funded by the District Assembly’s common fund. The Assembly wrote to GETFUND to take over the project. He said that the transfer of the project from DACF to GETFUND was yet to be done.
SCHOLARSHIP
An honorable member asked to know the modality with which the beneficiaries of scholarships are awarded.
The DCD responded that it is done through an on-line application. Qualified applicants are shortlisted for a selection interview after which the scholarship would be awarded to selected applicants. The honorable DCE added that, the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat would open for new entries in September and entreated members to inform their communities soon as it is opened.
