In a major boost to public safety and emergency preparedness, the leadership of the District Assembly has officially handed over a newly renovated and fully furnished Fire Post facility to officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

The brief ceremony marked the culmination of extensive structural upgrades, infrastructure development, and interior furnishing funded through Internally Generated Funds (IGF).

Speaking at the event, the District Chief Executive (DCE) emphasized that fire prevention education and emergency response in the area had previously faced challenges due to the lack of dedicated, stationed personnel and specialized facilities.

“Preventive activities, education, and related fire safety efforts dropped slightly in the past because we didn’t have service personnel stationed here. When we assumed responsibility, we committed our Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to fully renovate the building and bring it to standard.”

In addition to complete structural renovations, the project included essential utility upgrades to ensure the facility can support active firefighting operations:

• Dual Boreholes & Hydrant Installation: Two dedicated boreholes were drilled and mechanized to power an on-site fire hydrant system, ensuring continuous water access for emergency trucks.

• Fire Tender Bay: Construction of a custom-built shelter bay designed to house incoming heavy fire tenders and emergency vehicles.

• Full Furnishing: Complete interior fitting and office furnishings provided following direct consultations with Fire Service officers.

During the symbolic key presentation, leadership formally transferred operational control of the building to the accompanying GNFS contingent.

Accepting the keys on behalf of the Ghana National Fire Service, the commanding fire officer expressed appreciation for the investment and noted that the setup puts the station in an excellent position to scale up operations quickly.

“It is a privilege to receive this facility,” the officer stated. “We look forward to receiving our dedicated fire tender in the shortest possible time to ensure this station is running at full capacity for the community.”

With the completion of the facility, officers are now stationed locally to enhance fire prevention campaigns, conduct routine inspections, and provide rapid emergency response across surrounding residential and commercial areas.
